Melted wax being poured into a candle jar on a workshop bench

Candle making, first kit to small batch

The numbers everyone else keeps to themselves

Candle making for people setting up for the first time. We compile the manufacturers' published specifications, show the wax, wick and fragrance arithmetic, and pull live Amazon prices — instead of claiming we burned forty candles.

How this site is different

Everyone in this category says they burned forty candles. We have not burned any, and we say so. What we did instead: cross-referenced four published wick charts into one table and printed the places they disagree, compiled the manufacturers’ own melt points and pour temperatures, worked out the wax and fragrance arithmetic and showed it, and pulled the prices from the retailer rather than remembering them.

That is a smaller claim than a test lab and it is one you can check. Every figure on this site names the publisher it came from, and where nobody publishes a number, the page says not published rather than guessing.

Four charts, not one

ECO, CD, HTP, LX, zinc and wooden wick sizes from four publishers, side by side, with the wax each chart was calibrated against.

The arithmetic is shown

Wax weight per container, fragrance load per batch, cost per candle. The formula is on the page so you can reproduce it.

Prices from the retailer

Pulled live and date-stamped. Where there is no live price the page says check price, never a remembered number.

Every roundup names a skip

At least one product per roundup that we would not buy, and the specific buyer it is wrong for.
